How your baby's growing?
Your baby is about 10cm from crown to rump, approximately the size of a pear.
If you could see inside your womb, you may now see baby sucking his thumb!
Your baby's facial muscles have developed enough so that he can now pull faces, such as frowning, although babies still have no control over their expressions at this stage.
You
If this is not your first baby, you may soon be able to feel your baby move…at this stage it may feel like a slight fluttering, like butterflies in your tummy. If this is you first baby you may not feel these fluttering movements for a few more weeks yet.
Around the 16th week of pregnancy you may begin to 'show'. Rather than looking like you've just gained a few pounds, you may now start to see more of a defined bump and start to look visibly pregnant. If this is your first baby don't worry if you haven't started to 'show' just yet, some women do not start to show with their first baby until 6 months or more…everyone is different.
Around week 16 you will probably have another appointment with your midwife. This appointment is a routine check up to make sure you are feeling well. During this appointment you midwife will normally check your weight, and also take a urine sample and have a chat to you about everything. Your midwife may also give you the chance to listen to your baby's heartbeat, although this isn't always offered at 16 weeks. Also at this appointment you may make your 20 week scan appointment.
